Conrad’s practice focuses on environmental enforcement and litigation, compliance counseling, and white collar defense. He has assisted clients with a variety of federal and state environmental enforcement matters, due diligence efforts, regulatory guidance, regulatory and internal investigations, and litigation arising under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Clean Air Act (CAA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and analogous state laws. As a member of V&E’s ESG Taskforce, Conrad also counsels clients on developing and implementing environmental compliance programs and policies that address environmental and energy justice considerations.
Working with Ron Tenpas, he has recently been involved in enforcement matters that include issues related to mobile source emissions, environmental criminal liability, and reporting and disposal practices for underground injection wells. Conrad has also been involved in counseling clients under corporate monitorships and advising clients concerning complex litigation involving toxic torts, commercial disputes, and various federal statutes and state tort causes of action.

Assisted in negotiations with the Environmental Protection Agency Office of Grants and debarment
Performed internal investigations for major U.S. and international companies, evaluated compliance with, and financial risks from, the Clean Air Act and analogous state and international emissions laws
Prepared voluntary disclosures to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and analogous state environmental agencies
Performed internal audit for a major U.S. company, prepared voluntary audit reports, evaluated compliance with federal and state air, water, and waste environmental statutes and regulations
Assisted clients in implementing compliance strategies to reduce risk of future violations
