
Charles Aitchison


Charlie is a member of our International Disputes Group, with experience of a broad range of professional negligence claims involving engineers, architects, contractors, surveyors, insurers and other commercial organisations. He has experience in acting for both defendants and claimants in litigation, arbitration and mediation arising out of disputes in the UK and internationally.
Charlie also previously spent four years providing in-house legal and commercial advice to a leading consulting engineering company, both in the UK and Australia, with a particular emphasis on highways and commercial construction projects.
He also has experience in non-contentious construction matters having advised clients on a broad range of standard and bespoke construction agreements.
Experience Highlights
Acted for an international design engineering consultancy in respect of allegations of defective design of five multi-level car parks at retail sites, with a total quantum of £24 million
Represented a structural design engineer and its professional indemnity insurer in respect of defects to multiple wind turbine generator foundations across five wind farm sites, with a total quantum of €50million
Represented a leading property and infrastructure practice in defence, and subsequent strike out of a £7 million Technology and Construction Court claim arising out of alleged defects to a proprietary modular car park system
Acted for an international engineering consultant in an ICC arbitration regarding the design and construction of a hotel and conference complex in Abu Dhabi
Represented an international consulting engineering practice and its professional indemnity insurer in defence of a Technology and Construction Court claim, to successful strike-out of proceedings
Represented a structural design engineer in respect of complex multi-party litigation in the Technology and Construction Court concerning alleged defects to the foundations of a number of a number of commercial property units
Acted for an international structural design engineering consultant based in Denmark in respect of a Technology and Construction Court claim regarding defects to an offshore wind farm development
