Carla Jordan-Detamore

Carla is a senior associate in the complex commercial litigation practice group. Her practice primarily focuses on white collar criminal defense, government investigations, class action defense, and civil litigation.

Her litigation and client counseling experience includes managing complex electronic discovery, conducting internal investigations, acting as trial counsel in commercial business disputes, defending clients in government investigation and civil disputes involving allegations of fraud, defending clients in regulatory investigations and litigation arising out of financial restatements and accounting fraud and malpractice allegations, and advising clients on compliance matters. Carla is an active member of Vinson & Elkins’ Diversity Council, acting as one of the inaugural office leads for the Washington Office, and co-heading the Women of Color Network and Black Affinity Network.

Experience Highlights

  • Trial counsel defending $25 million claim against accounting firm by bankruptcy litigation trust alleging audit malpractice; client won a take nothing arbitration award in 2018 after full hearing on the merits 

  • (N.D. Tex.) Secured complete dismissal with prejudice of class action lawsuit alleging claims of aiding violations of the Texas Securities Act, negligence, and aiding and abetting breaches of fiduciary duty on behalf of accounting firm client

  • Represented leading alternative energy company in two-week arbitration under AAA Construction Industry Arbitration Rules against terminated construction contractor

  • (C.D. Ill.) — Represented defense contractor in a False Claims Act action involving allegations of fraud in connection with the settlement of a foreign subcontractor’s requests for equitable adjustment 

  • (ASBCA) – Represented defense contractor in two-week trial before the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals for resolution of certified claim

  • (N.D. Cal.) — Defending a foreign supplier and its U.S.-based affiliate in class action multi-district litigation related to allegations of price-fixing in the lithium ion batteries industry

  • (N.D. Cal.) – Defending a large consumer-electronics company in class action multi-district litigations involving allegations of price-fixing in the optical disc drive industry

  • Representing U.S. and foreign companies in creating new anticorruption compliance programs to reflect changes in law and enforcement trends, and reviewing and revising existing programs and policies; developing anticorruption compliance training; and conducting due diligence on prospective agents and business partners 

  • Successfully represented unaccompanied child in obtaining state court orders to petition for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status 

  • (D.D.C.) – Represented individual in a federal public corruption prosecution regarding the District of Columbia 2010 mayoral campaign (lead associate in sentencing phase)
