Law360 Names Gabriel Silva and Rob Landicho 2023 Rising Stars

Law360 has named Vinson & Elkins attorneys Gabriel Silva and Rob Landicho to its 2023 Rising Stars list, honoring outstanding attorneys under the age of 40. Silva is one of three attorneys selected nationwide in the Telecommunications category and Landicho is one of six in the International Arbitration category.
Law360’s 2023 Rising Stars were selected from more than 1,350 nationwide submissions. Winners were selected by Law360 editors on the basis of their career accomplishments in their respective disciplines.
Silva, a Partner in the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions and Capital Markets practice group, works with a variety of public and private companies as well as private equity investors and their portfolio companies handling mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, and securities offerings. He has significant experience in transactions in the digital infrastructure sector, such as telecom towers, data centers and fiber.
In an August profile, Law360 lauds Silva for his representation of Aligned Data Centers and Macquarie Asset Management in their acquisition of ODATA, a data center service provider offering scalable, reliable, and flexible IT infrastructure in Latin America.
“It was a very, very competitive process, a number of different players looking at that asset. And that was really shaping the market in data centers for several months,” Silva told Law360. “There was a lot of scrutiny on that transaction. And it was particularly challenging given the number of jurisdictions involved.”
When asked by Law360 what motivates him, Silva said achieving what others may think is impossible, such as having made partner at a very young age at an elite law firm. Silva’s complete Rising Stars profile can be viewed here.
Landicho, Counsel in the firm’s International Dispute Resolution & Arbitration practice, focuses on international energy and infrastructure disputes, including commercial arbitration, inter-state arbitration, investor-state arbitration and national court litigation.
In his profile, Law360 highlights Landicho’s biggest case of his career so far – the recent $1.47 billion award from the International Chamber of Commerce that Landicho (along with his colleagues James Loftis, Mina Morova, and Kylie Terry) obtained on behalf of Republic of Iraq against the Republic of Turkey.
When explaining the challenges of the case, Landicho told Law360: “you have both the legal dispute and the political dispute that’s happening around it. There are political decisions being made and changes in government, on both sides, that may affect the dispute itself. It makes it uniquely complex, having two countries with different priorities.”
Prior to practicing law, Landicho worked for the International Organization for Migration – Iraq Mission managing community assistance programs and development projects in Iraq.
In an interview with Law360, Landicho said he is proud to have watched his career come full circle – working again with the Iraqi government on various matters in international arbitration, after having worked with the Iraqi government prior to practicing law.
