Vinson & Elkins Adds Intellectual Property Partner Michael Jay

Jay brings extensive experience handling complex intellectual property disputes across industries.

Vinson & Elkins today announced that Michael Jay has joined the firm as a Los Angeles-based partner in its Intellectual Property & Technology Litigation practice.

A first-chair trial lawyer with more than 20 years of experience, Jay represents technology, media, life sciences, and other innovative companies in high-stakes patent and trade secret disputes. He has litigated cases in federal district courts throughout the United States and the U.S. International Trade Commission, and has argued before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. His practice spans a broad range of technologies, including wireless communications, smartphones, semiconductors, computer software, and medical devices. He also brings broad technical experience to disputes involving emerging technologies across industries, including energy transition, data centers, and grid infrastructure.

Jay earned a bachelor’s degree in neurobiology from the University of California, Berkeley and a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law.
