Vinson & Elkins Partner Lande Spottswood appeared live on Bloomberg Deals TV to discuss the state of upstream oil & gas M&A, including how the war in Iran is impacting dealmaking. She was joined by Quantum Capital Group’s Executive Vice Chairman Dwight Scott
Spottswood noted that “deals can get done in uncertainty,” but are more difficult to execute when there is a “reasonable belief” that market conditions may shift in the near term.
Despite these headwinds, Spottswood emphasized that the long-term drivers of consolidation remain intact, as energy companies must continue to grow or “you’re going to get smaller,” reinforcing the ongoing push toward mergers and strategic combinations.
