Vinson & Elkins Chair Keith Fullenweider appeared on the New York Stock Exchange’s Inside the ICE House Podcast, where he discussed the forces reshaping business, finance, and the legal industry.
Among other topics, Fullenweider addressed the continued growth of Texas as a business and financial center, the AI data center boom, and how Vinson & Elkins has managed to evolve and grow over its more than 100-year-old history. Listen to the full conversation in the video below.
Discussing Texas’ evolution beyond energy, Fullenweider noted that the state’s economy spans finance, consumer goods, manufacturing, defense, technology, and retail. “It’s really all aspects of the economy.”
Fullenweider reflected on how Vinson & Elkins has likewise evolved, expanding geographically, including with major offices in New York, London, Washington, D.C. and elsewhere, while also growing beyond its roots in energy and public company work. “We’re very proud of those roots, but we’ve really realized that our job is to do more with that, not just rest on those laurels,” he said. “We’ve really done that in the private equity space. Today, we represent the majority of the large sponsors across the globe.”
The AI data center boom in particular, “plays to our strengths,” he added. “We have power development, project finance partners, energy regulatory partners, people here are used to financing and getting built large complex [infrastructure projects].”
