Joyce Adetutu Discusses Tariffs in Bloomberg Law

Media Coverage

Partner Joyce Adetutu spoke with Bloomberg Law about the U.S. government’s efforts to develop a new online portal to process refund requests for tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) that were later overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court. The system, being developed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, is expected to help manage a significant number of refund claims from importers.

Adetutu explained that the proposed process could make it easier for companies to request refunds by allowing importers to submit consolidated claims covering multiple entries.

“The process proposed by customs officials so far would likely streamline things by allowing each importer to collectively seek refunds for all of the goods they brought in, as opposed to by entry,” Adetutu said.

She was also featured in a separate Bloomberg Law Q&A discussing how geopolitical developments and evolving trade policies are reshaping international trade practice. She noted that lawyers increasingly must anticipate policy shifts while advising clients navigating a rapidly changing regulatory environment.

“More of my practice now is less so about analyzing the law as it presently exists, but it’s about analyzing the geopolitical shifts.”
