Vinson & Elkins Represents BBBSTX in Merger with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas

Firm News

Vinson & Elkins represented Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star (BBBSTX) on a pro bono basis in connection with its merger with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas, a combination that strengthens youth mentoring services across Texas.

The merger unites two leading youth mentoring organizations to expand their collective impact and enhance long-term sustainability across the state. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas supports more than 500 Big/Little matches annually through high-quality mentoring programs, while BBBSTX contributes strong nonprofit governance, financial stewardship, and scalable operational infrastructure. The newly expanded organization will serve more than 6,500 children in 2026.

This merger allows the organization to combine program excellence with operational strength, expand its reach and impact in Central Texas and beyond, provide greater stability and support for volunteers, families, and staff, and strengthen its ability to ignite the power and promise of youth for years to come.

“V&E has been proud to provide pro bono legal services to BBBSTX for over thirty years, and this merger is a tremendous milestone — it means even more kids and families across Texas will have access to mentoring that can change their lives,” said Parker Cragg, Pro Bono Counsel at Vinson & Elkins. “Our lawyers are energized by pro bono work that drives real impact, and this merger will do exactly that for youth across Texas.”

The Vinson & Elkins team was led by Partners Robert Kimball and Michael Gibson. Also advising were Partners Mike Bielby, Paige Anderson, Sang Lee, and Fry Wernick; Counsel Hal Taylor; Associates Leah Powers, Reese Glusing, and Allyson Grove. The firm has a longstanding pro bono relationship with BBBSTX, advising on prior agency mergers as well as a range of matters including internal policies, tax, charitable giving, real estate, and employment matters.

Vinson & Elkins’ pro bono program reflects the firm’s commitment to providing legal services to organizations that make a meaningful difference in their communities. Lawyers across the firm dedicate substantial time and resources to supporting initiatives that expand opportunity and improve lives.
