Japanese players, backed by 15-and 20-year LNG offtake commitments, are investing in U.S. upstream assets with a long-term, buy-and-hold approach.
“It’s almost like the opposite of private equity—they’re not looking to flip,” Shay Kuperman told Hart Energy. . . . “Japan has the want for more energy security and stable energy supply. I think it relates to that thesis. It’s not so much looking at a return on investment and wanting X-multiple by three years, four years, etcetera.”
