New Study Questions GHG Benefits of Biofuels

new study published in Nature Climate Change questions the greenhouse gas reduction benefits of biofuels made from crop residue. Biofuels made from crop residues, such as corn stover, are an important component of EPA’s renewable fuel standards (“RFS”) program and have been thought to have the potential to deliver significant GHG reduction benefits when compared to fossil fuels.

President Obama Announces Climate Action Plan

Yesterday, President Obama unveiled his Climate Action Plan, which aims to both reduce emissions of greenhouse gases (“GHGs”) and adapt to the projected impacts of climate change. The Plan reasserts the commitment that President Obama made under the Copenhagen Agreement to reduce the United States’ GHG emissions to 17% below 2005 levels by 2020.
