I try to take a practical approach to the way I address and tackle various issues; to propose something that’s not feasible or too complicated is never helpful. I speak in plain English to clients, so we can get to the solution we need.
A lot of the value that someone in my position brings to the client is experience. Because of the volume of transactions that I have handled, I understand the market. I can tell clients, 'Here's what general partners are asking for. Here’s what limited partners are getting.'
We are fortunate to have clients who have entrusted us with their significant matters on a repeat basis over the years. I think the reason clients return is that they trust our judgment, as well as our responsiveness. When they choose V&E, they have access to a deep bench of experienced, well-trained lawyers across multiple relevant disciplines.
The thing I like most about my job is leveling the playing field for property owners against the government. We have the experience of dealing with the right-of-way piece, the appraisal piece and the legal piece. We can counter all of the force and experience of the government, absorb it and stand up to the government for the property owner.
