The most interesting part for me is learning about how both my lender and borrower clients make money. Learning about their businesses, how they achieve success, and how they plan to continue that success. That understanding allows me to offer better counsel on a given transaction.

I've been lucky to do all sorts of financing for all sorts of clients. I love being involved in transactions, and working with various parties, from the conception of an idea, all the way through to an exit, and on anything and everything that comes up along the way.

One of the things I like best about my work is that I get to be deeply involved in my clients’ businesses. I like developing close relationships with my clients and working with them to find creative and efficient ways to solve complex problems and achieve their goals.

Project development and finance is largely an exercise in problem solving – every project faces its own unique set of extremely complex challenges. We are fortunate to have clients that trust us to help them overcome those challenges with the development of what is usually a fundamentally important piece of infrastructure that serves a community or region.

My most valuable skill is my ability to connect with people. Whether that means developing a good relationship with a CEO, CFO, General Counsel, or with the SEC, or having constructive relationships with opposing counsel and opposing parties, my ability to relate well to others has been key to my success over the years.

I have a broad base of experience in the finance area — there's very little I haven't seen and done. I draw on that experience when structuring deals for my clients to think through complicated problems and anticipate variables and outcomes.

I enjoy working with really smart and interesting clients, particularly private equity firms, and helping them solve their most difficult financing problems. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to work closely with my clients and gain an insider’s view into their businesses and their industries.
