Michael A. Garza

Michael is an associate in the Restructuring and Reorganization practice group and is based in the Firm’s Houston office. His practice focuses primarily on bankruptcy and financial restructuring matters, including representations of debtors, creditors, investors, and other interested parties in chapter 11 bankruptcies, out-of-court restructurings, and acquisitions. Prior to joining the Firm, Michael clerked for the Honorable Brendan L. Shannon of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

  • Riverstone Holdings in its role as private equity sponsor in connection with the prepackaged chapter 11 bankruptcy cases of UTEX Industries, a leading sealant manufacturer

  • Lilis Energy in connection with its chapter 11 bankruptcy cases and the sale of substantially all of its assets to Ameredev

  • CARBO Ceramics Inc. and certain of its affiliates, who were engaged in the manufacturing of ceramic proppant and other industrial ceramic materials and oilfield products, in their chapter 11 bankruptcy cases filed in Houston, Texas; pre-negotiated chapter 11 plan confirmed within 80 days of case filing

  • Riverstone Holdings and HPS Investment Partners as equity owners in connection with the restructuring of Alta Mesa Resources and its subsidiaries involving approximately $862 million of funded debt
