Justin’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation in state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels. He has experience drafting substantive motions in high-stakes trial matters, briefing and arguing appeals, and preparing for all aspects of trial. His representations have included significant clients from a variety of industries, including energy, health care, pharmaceutical, private equity, and technology companies.
Justin also maintains an active pro bono practice, in which he has enjoyed the privilege of representing a range of clients, from refugees seeking asylum to prisoners seeking to vindicate constitutional rights. Recently, he helped obtain a favorable judgment for a petitioner in a federal child abduction case, after a full trial on the merits, in which he examined witnesses and ultimately delivered the winning closing argument.

Defended one of Northern California’s largest hospital systems in a multi-billion dollar antitrust suit involving tying and market leveraging claims
Defended the corporate owner of an international cryptocurrency derivatives trading platform in multiple lawsuits alleging violations of the Commodity Exchange Act, RICO, various California state statutory and common law claims, and breach of an investment contract
Defended two venture capital firms in suits related to the alleged misconduct of an investment company
Defended the country’s largest credit reporting agency against various CLRA actions in federal district court and the Ninth Circuit
Defended a German multinational software corporation against antitrust and trade secret misappropriation claims by obtaining an order excluding the other party’s expert witness under Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals
Assisted in successfully mounting a First Amendment defense for an American mass media organization sued for allegedly misreporting on the coronavirus pandemic
Assisted a French biotechnology company in obtaining relief in an international arbitration for the theft of its trade secrets by a large multinational pharmaceutical
Assisted in defending an American paint manufacturing and distributing company from claims arising out of a contract dispute
Examined witnesses, delivered closing argument, and secured a favorable judgment for a petitioner in a federal child abduction case after a full trial on the merits
Argued and obtained a published reversal from the Ninth Circuit for an ADA plaintiff
Argued and obtained a reversal from the Ninth Circuit for a Section 1983 plaintiff
Assisted in obtaining a favorable settlement for a civil rights claimant in an appeal before the Seventh Circuit
Assisted in obtaining asylum for a Salvadoran mother and daughter fleeing gang persecution
