V&E’s Shareholder Activism Practice Receives Noteworthy Global and Nationwide Rankings

Vinson & Elkins’ Shareholder Activism practice has been recognized with several significant new rankings.

The Deal has named V&E among five finalists for “Activist Defense Law Firm of the Year” as part of their annual awards recognizing leaders in the global community of dealmakers and advisors. Awards will be given at a virtual ceremony to be held on Sept. 25, 2020.

And, in the recently published Legal 500 U.S. 2020 guide, V&E was ranked among the 14 top firms in the nation for Shareholder Activism – Advice to Boards. Lawrence Elbaum and Patrick Gadson, New York co-heads of the firm’s Shareholder Activism practice, were also recognized in the guide – Elbaum as one of only two “Next Generation Partners” in the category and Gadson as a recommended practitioner. Sources laud Elbaum for “unsurpassed experience in, and knowledge of, this space,” and Gadson as “a vital asset to the team.”

These rankings come on the heels of Refinitiv, a global provider of financial markets data, awarding the practice the No. 1 ranking for company and board representation based on the number of activism campaigns defended in 2019. This is the fourth consecutive year V&E has received this designation.

FactSet’s and Activist Insight’s full year 2019 rankings also named V&E the top firm for shareholder activism defense for the fourth year in a row, in addition to Bloomberg recognizing the firm as No. 1 for company defense in its inaugural league table for shareholder activism released in January, covering full year 2019.

V&E’s Shareholder Activism team has received other notable recognition, including:

  • Ranked No. 1 for company defense in The Deal’s Q3 2019 and Full Year 2018 Shareholder Activism League Tables;
  • Patrick Gadson recognized as a 2019 Rising Star by The Deal; and
  • Lawrence Elbaum named finalist for “Dealmaker of the Year” as part of The Deal Awards 2019 and 2018

Comprising approximately 30 attorneys, V&E’s Shareholder Activism practice, led by Elbaum and Gadson in New York and Jeff Floyd and Steve Gill in Houston, leverages the firm’s top-tier public company, M&A, corporate governance and litigation practices, to effectively represent companies facing shareholder activism.
