As the world transitions to a decarbonised energy system, hydrogen has become a clear front-runner as a potential transition and post-carbon fuel source. There has been a surge in interest in hydrogen produced by renewable energy, known as green hydrogen, or produced from traditional fossil fuels but coupled with carbon capture technology, known as blue hydrogen. In this article for Project Finance International, Partners Andrew Nealon and Lauren Davies, Counsel Alistair Wishart and Associate Louise Fischel-Bock examine certain key considerations when drafting and negotiating offtake agreements in the low-carbon hydrogen space.
