Finance Partner Caitlin Lawrence Rejoins Vinson & Elkins

Lawrence represents publicly and privately held corporate borrowers and issuers, credit funds, private equity funds, and commercial banks in complex financings.

Vinson & Elkins today announced that Caitlin Lawrence has returned to the firm as a Houston-based partner in the firm’s Finance practice.

She has broad-based experience in commercial lending, direct lending, and other leveraged and project finance transactions, including back-leverage and tax equity financings, reserve-based and asset-based facilities, acquisition financings, development and project financing, mezzanine facilities, direct lending, restructurings, and other structured financings.

Lawrence has significant energy financing experience, including renewable and traditional energy matters involving residential, commercial, and industrial solar, utility and transmission infrastructure, oil and gas exploration and production, midstream systems and terminals, oilfield services, distribution, storage, transportation, manufacturing, and retail. She has recently worked on major engagements for numerous renewables and power-distribution focused clients.

She returns to Vinson & Elkins, where she previously worked for almost nine years, from Baker Botts, where she was a Finance partner.

“Bringing Caitlin back to the firm may be one of the easier decisions we will make this year,” said Vinson & Elkins Partner Dave Wicklund, head of the firm’s Global Finance Practice. “Her experience handling traditional and renewable energy and infrastructure transactions fits perfectly with our Finance practice and also complements our M&A work. It doesn’t hurt that she is also well-regarded across the firm.”

Lawrence is one of more than 30 former Vinson & Elkins lawyers who have returned to the firm over the past five years, following stints in-house, in government service, or at other firms.

“The depth and breadth of Vinson & Elkins’ global Finance Practice is hard to match, as is the firm’s client roster in the energy and infrastructure industries,” Lawrence said. “I look forward to rejoining so many friends and colleagues, contributing to the dynamic growth of the firm’s finance capabilities, and working with fantastic clients on complex financing transactions.”

Lawrence received a Bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame and a Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago Law School. She is recognized by The Legal 500 U.S. (2024) in energy transactions: oil and gas.

From LNG liquefaction and regasification facilities, and hydroelectric projects, to power transmission lines, natural gas storage facilities, petrochemical plants, and solar generation facilities, Vinson & Elkins’ Project & Infrastructure Finance team has represented clients in the development and financing of projects located in the United States and throughout the world.
