Vinson & Elkins Named Among Law360’s 2024 Texas Powerhouses

This is the eighth occasion Law360 has honored regional powerhouses, and Vinson & Elkins has been featured on the Texas list each time.

Vinson & Elkins LLP, a law firm with deep Texas roots that began growing with its Houston founding more than a century ago, played a role in multiple traditional and renewable energy deals, including a $26 billion merger between Endeavor Energy Resources and Diamondback Energy, while also advising Southwest Airlines in investments related to sustainable aviation fuel.

Houston-based chair Keith Fullenweider told Law360 that, “on the deal side, we really have had a good year, in a year when [mergers and acquisitions have] not been really going gangbusters across the economy.”

Michael Holmes, the firm’s Dallas-based vice chair, said V&E has been “firing on all cylinders” when it comes to litigation and noted its strong securities and governance litigation practice, “which includes shareholder activism defense.”

Both Fullenweider and Holmes, who have been with V&E for their entire legal careers, credit the firm’s culture and management structure for its success.

“We are a firm that is trying to resist the revolving door that you’re seeing with lawyers moving between firms frequently, every three or four years,” Fullenweider said. “We don’t think that’s good for people’s careers, and certainly not for clients.”
