Vinay Prabhakar Joins Vinson & Elkins as Tax Partner

Prabhakar has significant experience advising on the tax aspects of domestic and cross-border infrastructure, energy and private-equity transactions.
Vinson & Ekins today announced that Vinay Prabhakar has joined the firm’s New York office as a partner in the firm’s Tax practice.
Prabhakar advises clients on the tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, financings, capital market transactions, derivatives, and structured products. He has first-hand experience structuring private equity investments involving renewables, LNG, midstream, and digital infrastructure projects.
He joins from Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), now part of BlackRock, which owns and operates some of the largest assets across energy, digital infrastructure and other sectors. At GIP, he served most recently as Managing Director and Head of Tax, leading global fund-level tax planning, portfolio company structuring, and transaction execution across North America, Europe, Asia, and emerging markets.
“Having worked in private equity energy and infrastructure for most of his career, Vinay is very familiar with the sophisticated tax issues and commercial challenges our clients face,” Vinson & Elkins Partner David Peck, head of the firm’s Tax department said. “He will be able to contribute immediately to many of the infrastructure projects we are handling.”
“I have had the good fortune to work with Vinay on a number of complicated transactions and can attest to not only his subject-matter experience and commercial acumen, but also his collaborative work style, which fits perfectly with our culture,” said Eamon Nolan, a partner in Vinson & Elkins’ Project Development and Finance practices and co-managing partner of the firm’s New York office. “He is a phenomenal addition who will help us continue to grow our presence in New York and nationwide.”
“I chose to join Vinson & Elkins’ preeminent energy, infrastructure, and private-equity platforms because they align perfectly with my background and sector focus,” Prabhakar said. “My familiarity with the firm and many of its clients will allow me to hit the ground running.”
Prabhakar received his Bachelor’s degree with highest distinction from Indiana University Bloomington and his Juris Doctor from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
