How do you stay ahead of the curve in a competitive market, especially when managing high-stakes transactions?

It is certainly very important to stay abreast of changes in the legal and regulatory environment and market norms for deal practice. But what I think really differentiates advisers now, in an extremely competitive market for legal services, is how well you understand your client and their interests, the counterparty and their interests, and how you combine that understanding of the people, the companies and the investors with legal knowledge to provide the best strategic and commercial advice.
