Harry Reasoner Named to Lawdragon’s Hall of Fame

Harry M. Reasoner

Vinson & Elkins senior partner Harry Reasoner has been named to the 2022 class of the Lawdragon Hall of Fame.

A partner at Vinson & Elkins since 1970, Reasoner served as firmwide managing partner from 1992 through 2001 and is a member of the firm’s Complex Commercial Litigation group. Over the course of his six decade career, he has handled cases brought under the antitrust laws, RICO, securities law and regulatory laws, involving master limited partnerships, communication networks, nuclear power plants, natural gas pipelines, energy and environmental regulations, oil and gas disputes and mergers in a variety of industries. Prior to joining Vinson & Elkins, he worked as a law clerk for Judge Charles Clark on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Reasoner is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers; International Academy of Trial Lawyers; International Society of Barristers; American Law Institute; and American Board of Trial Advocates. He also dedicates significant time championing pro bono legal services, including serving as Chair of the Texas Access to Justice Commission from 2009 to 2021, which is charged by the Texas Supreme Court with developing and facilitating access to justice to those who cannot afford lawyers.

For these efforts, Reasoner received the Houston Bar Foundation’s highest honor, the James B. Sales Pro Bono Leadership Award, in 2020, and the American Inns of Court Professionalism Award for the Fifth Circuit, in 2004. He was also recognized with the Award for Achievement in the Pursuit of Justice for All by the Center for American and International Law, the Karen H. Susman Jurisprudence Award by the Anti-Defamation League and the American Lawyer Lifetime Achievement Award, among other prestigious honors. He has also received distinguished alumni awards from Rice University, The University of Texas School of Law and the University of Texas.

Attorneys named to the Lawdragon Hall of Fame are seen as “the nation’s greatest corporate litigators, plaintiff powerhouses, innovators who established new areas of law practice and individuals whose dedication to a sometimes precarious legal system are unsurpassed.”
