Vinson & Elkins partners Matt Jacobs, Mark Kelly, Craig Seebald and Lande Spottswood have been named to the 2021 Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America.

Presented annually online and in the publication’s print magazine, the Lawdragon 500 recognizes “the best of the best in all practice areas.” To compile the list, lawyers and firms are invited to share news and nominations for lawyers who have made a significant impact in the profession the prior year. The publication uses this research to identify the legal developments that mattered most and the lawyers and judges behind those achievements.

As the 2021 guide notes, the following V&E attorneys are recognized as “litigators and dealmakers who have joined arm in arm to turn the page on hard times.”

Jacobs, co-chair of V&E’s Government Investigations & White Collar Criminal Defense practice and managing partner of the firm’s San Francisco office, is a former federal prosecutor with more than 25 years of experience in internal investigations, government investigations and white collar matters of all kinds, as well as complex commercial litigation.

Kelly, chairman of V&E, maintains an active practice concentrated on mergers and acquisitions for public and private companies, capital markets and corporate governance. He has extensive experience in public offerings of equity securities, as well as public and private debt securities.

Seebald, managing partner of V&E’s Washington, D.C., office and co-chair of the firm-wide Complex Commercial Litigation Practice, has more than 20 years of experience representing clients in all areas of antitrust law, including criminal defense, class action litigation and merger investigations. A key area of his practice is defending multinational companies in cartel and price-fixing investigations.

Spottswood, head of talent for V&E’s Mergers & Acquisitions and Capital Markets practice and co-lead of the firm’s Women’s Initiative in Houston, focuses her practice on large and complex strategic transactions, often in the energy and industrial sectors. She advises on mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, restructurings, spinoffs, and joint ventures, as well as preferred investments and other capital-raising transactions.
