Vinson & Elkins has been named among the 2018 Top 10 Family Friendly Firms by Yale Law Women (YLW). The list recognizes firms for leadership in developing and implementing family friendly practices and policies. V&E was previously named to the list in 2014 and 2016.

YLW is a student-run organization that works to advance the status of women at Yale Law School and in the legal profession at large. The 13th annual Family Friendly Firms List was produced to monitor trends in family friendliness among law firms ranked in the Vault 100, raise awareness of gender disparities within the legal profession, highlight progress being made in the industry, and identify areas for improvement. To create the list, YLW invited all firms listed in the 2018 Vault Law 100 to participate in its survey of family friendly policies and collected data on family accommodations and parental leave, as well as indicators of gender equality such as partnership promotions and composition of leadership committees.

In 2000, V&E launched its Women’s Initiative, which focuses on the retention and advancement of women lawyers. The Initiative offers a variety of programs to help the Firm’s women lawyers develop and connect with one another and to support working parents, including mentoring programs; networking, business development, and family-friendly events; new parent mentoring program; parental leave; post-family leave phase-in; flexible work arrangements; and remote work benefits.

The Initiative operates under the direction of V&E Partner Trina Chandler, who is a member of the firm’s Management Committee and Scott Wulfe, the firm’s Managing Partner.

“V&E’s commitment to creating an environment that is supportive of women and families is a key component of the firm’s culture, and we are honored to receive this award,” said Chandler. “There is still work to do, but we are very appreciative of YLW for recognizing the firm’s ongoing efforts to support family friendly programs and the advancement of our women lawyers.”
