Vinson & Elkins Seeks Applicants for College Scholarships
The application for Vinson & Elkins’ annual scholarships for high-performing high school seniors in Texas who are students of color and/or LGBTQ+ is now open. V&E’s scholarships provide each awarded student $10,000 toward their college education and reimbursement for a Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) preparatory course.
The V&E Scholars Program was founded in 1990 as part of the firm’s effort to increase diversity in the legal profession and at V&E. Over the course of the 30-year program, V&E has granted scholarships to 168 students from Austin, Dallas and Houston.
Each year, V&E awards students in underrepresented racial/ethnic groups (African-American/Black, Asian, Latinx, Native American and Pacific Islander, or Multiracial) and/or students who identify as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, with scholarships that pay $2,500 a year for four years. To qualify, each student must have a financial need, a strong academic performance (top 20%) and an interest in becoming a lawyer. View more details about the scholarship requirements here.
“Because of V&E’s commitment to diversity, I’m now one step closer toward achieving my goal of working in the legal field where I hope to represent people in communities like my own,” said Paulina Morales, one of V&E’s recent V&E Scholars. Read about our 2020 scholarship recipients here.
