Vinson & Elkins Receives Inaugural Houston Bar Association Diversity Award
Vinson & Elkins has been selected to receive the Houston Bar Association’s 2020 Diversity Award, recognizing the firm for its commitment to diversity efforts within the Houston legal community. This is the first year HBA has included this category as part of its annual awards program.
The HBA was established in 1870 to maintain high standards in the legal profession and provide legal education for Harris County attorneys. There are 31 committees responsible for planning many of the HBA’s programs, including the Diversity & Inclusion and Gender Fairness committees dedicated to encouraging equal opportunities for diverse lawyers through programming, education and networking and support efforts.
In line with these ideals, as a member of the global legal profession, V&E understands its responsibility to achieve equality — inclusive of diverse interests, backgrounds, perspectives, race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, age, religion and physical ability. The firm’s structure, policies, and programs support a focus on diversity, including its Women’s Initiative, Diversity Council, affinity groups, diversity conferences and pipeline initiatives to identify early opportunities to further diversify the firm and the profession.
V&E was selected to receive this award not only for its internal dedication to promoting diversity, but for the firm’s support of the HBA’s diversity and inclusion committees and the important initiatives they undertake.
