V&E Shareholder Activism Team Receives Top Rankings

Vinson & Elkins’ Shareholder Activism team has received No. 1 rankings for company representation as part of FactSet SharkRepellent’s 2018 year-end league tables, as well as Activist Insight Monthly’s 2018 Intermediary Awards.

In a report by Activist Insight, V&E is noted for its representation of SandRidge Energy in its bout with Carl Icahn, Nutrisystem in its engagement with Legion Partners Asset Management and Blackwells Partners in its campaign for board representation at SuperValu.

“There’s no issuer, large or small, that’s impervious to shareholder activism,” Lawrence Elbaum, co-head of the firm’s Shareholder Activism practice, told Activist Insight, noting that there was an unprecedented number of withhold campaigns, formal and informal, as well as first-time or nontraditional activists in 2018.

FactSet’s corporate activism database, SharkWatch, monitors and analyzes corporate activism with investor profiles detailing previous campaigns, tactics, outcomes and more. Activist Insight Monthly is the first monthly magazine dedicated to activist investing, designed to provide qualitative research and exclusive intel into the mindsets of professionals in the activist investing space.

“Our priority is exceeding the expectations of our clients, which has allowed our practice to exceed expectations overall,” said Patrick Gadson, Vinson & Elkins’ New York Chair of Shareholder Activism. “We are honored to be ranked by FactSet and Activist Insight, as these recognitions are a direct reflection of our focus on providing value to our clients.”

V&E’s Shareholder Activism practice, which includes approximately 30 attorneys, leverages the experience of the firm’s top-tier corporate and litigation practices, representing companies facing the growing tide of shareholder activism. The team has been involved in approximately 100 activist situations across all industries, including dozens of proxy contests over the past five years.
