V&E Pro Bono Counsel Ellyn Josef to Receive Pro Bono Leadership Award from Texas Appleseed
Texas Appleseed will honor Vinson & Elkins’ Pro Bono Counsel Ellyn Josef with a Pro Bono Leadership Award at its annual Good Apple Dinner on November 14, 2019 in Austin, Texas.
Texas Appleseed’s mission is to promote social and economic justice for all Texans by leveraging the skills and resources of volunteer lawyers and other professionals to identify practical solutions to difficult systemic problems. Since 2002, the organization has hosted the Good Apple Dinner to honor leaders for their contributions to the community. Pro Bono Leadership Awards are given to individuals and firms who have provided much-needed pro bono service to Texas Appleseed on urgent issues.
Described as “a constant advocate and fantastic friend to Texas Appleseed,” Josef coordinates and manages V&E’s pro bono initiatives, including supervising all firm-wide pro bono activities and committees and spearheading the development of local, national and international pro bono projects.
“Giving back to the community is deeply rooted in V&E’s culture, resulting in our lawyers devoting significant time to pro bono legal service each year,” said Doug Bland, V&E partner and member of the host committee for this year’s Good Apple Dinner. “Ellyn’s passion for equal justice and serving the less fortunate has led the firm’s pro bono initiatives to thrive, and we can’t think of a more deserving individual to receive this honor.”
Josef maintains V&E’s longstanding relationship with Texas Appleseed, including coordinating the firm’s support of the organization’s School-to-Prison Pipeline programs to keep children in school and on track to graduate and its Homeless Youth initiatives to promote juvenile and criminal justice reform and foster care reform.
Further, V&E lawyers provide research assistance for various pro bono efforts and reports set forth by Texas Appleseed to uncover inequity in laws and policies and identify solutions for lasting, concrete change.
“I am thrilled to receive this award and am so proud of V&E’s partnership with Texas Appleseed,” said Josef. “We look forward to continuing our work together in support of greater justice.”
