Texas Access to Justice Commission Honors V&E with Champion of Justice Award
The Texas Access to Justice Commission (TAJC) has honored Vinson & Elkins with a Champion of Justice Award in recognition of the firm’s stellar fundraising efforts as part of TAJC’s statewide Justice for All Campaign.
In April, law firms participated in the Champions of Justice Firm Competition, collecting voluntary contributions in support of organizations providing legal services to the poor through grants distributed by the Texas Access to Justice Foundation and the Texas Bar Foundation. V&E was recognized in the “large size” category for raising the highest amount and achieving the highest rate of attorney participation during the campaign.
Founded by the Texas Supreme Court in 2001, the TAJC focuses on developing and implementing programs designed to improve the quality of and increase access to the civil justice system for low-income Texans. Harry Reasoner, a litigation partner in V&E’s Houston office, has served as a TAJC member since 2006 and as chair since 2009.
“A dedication to serving the greater good through pro bono work is ingrained in our culture at V&E,” said partner Jennifer Poppe, who accepted the award on the firm’s behalf. “As lawyers, we are privileged to have the ability to make legal services more accessible to those who can’t afford them, and we are proud to steadfastly support the Texas Access to Justice Commission as it makes strides toward making ‘Justice for All’ a reality in Texas.”
Winners appeared in the October issue of the Texas Bar Journal and awards were presented at the Justice for All Reception on October 18, 2018.
