Quentin Smith Named Among Bloomberg Law’s “They’ve Got Next: The 40 Under 40”

Smith was recognized as one of 10 litigation attorneys who have gone above and beyond for their clients and in their communities.

A partner in Vinson & Elkins’ Houston office, Smith represents clients in a wide array of disputes, including complex contract disputes, shareholder disputes, disputes arising out of fiduciary duties, property tax valuations and condemnation actions. He also serves as a Houston Office Lead on the firm’s Diversity Council and as member of the Houston Recruiting Committee.

Outside of the office, Smith is a Fellow of both the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity and Texas Bar Foundation. He also serves as General Counsel for the Theatre Under the Stars and as a Trustee for the Houston Symphony. In these roles, Smith dedicates countless hours to pro bono legal service, diversity and inclusion initiatives and serving the community.

When asked by Bloomberg Law how he defines success in his practice, Smith said “in any matter [he] handles, [he] strives to understand the client’s goals at the outset of that matter. Rarely is their goal simply winning a dispute. Instead, there are often numerous other factors that are just as, if not more, important than obtaining a favorable judgment or award by any means necessary.”

This is Bloomberg Law’s first class of 40 Under 40 honorees. To compile the list, the publication asked firms to nominate lawyers under the age of 40 who are leaders in their practice areas and innovators in the legal industry.
