Vinson & Elkins has once again been named a Texas Powerhouse by Law360, in recognition of the firm’s successes over the past year.

Among just five firms in Texas honored by Law360, V&E is lauded for “notching major victories in its home state and beyond for household names in the energy sector,” and drawing on its experience in energy, finance and environment to expand its international dispute resolution, real estate, restructuring and white collar practices.

In an interview with Law360, Jim Thompson, co-head of V&E’s global litigation department, said he was proud not only of the firm’s results in the past year, but of the diversity of its litigation practice, citing the firm’s work for Anadarko to revive a Deepwater Horizon insurance dispute at the Texas Supreme Court and its Fifth Circuit win for Plains All American in an investor suit stemming from an oil spill.

In addition to multimillion-dollar litigation victories, V&E is recognized for advising on 73 deals worth approximately $127 billion and more than 50 stock offerings collectively worth $2.8 billion in 2019.

V&E Chairman Mark Kelly attributes the firm’s success to a commitment to continually improving. “Everybody, from the time this firm was founded, has always been invested, not for the short-term gain, but for the long term, trying to build a place that is inclusive, that is diverse, where people really want to come to work.”

This is the fourth time Law360 has selected Regional Powerhouses; V&E was also named to the list in 2015, 2017 and 2018.
