Lande Spottswood Receives 2018 Texas Lawyer "On the Rise" Award
Vinson & Elkins partner Lande Spottswood has been selected by Texas Lawyer to receive a 2018 “On the Rise” award.
Spottswood is among 23 Texas attorneys named in the category, which honors the most promising lawyers under the age of 40 in the state. “All of the honorees have had, and continue to have, extraordinary careers,” said Texas Lawyer. “The bottom line: They are all impact players in the Texas legal community.”
Spottswood was elected to the V&E partnership in 2017, at the time becoming the firm’s youngest partner at the age of 32. She focuses on corporate finance and securities law, including mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings and general corporate representation, and regularly advises clients on some of the firm’s largest and most complicated transactions.
Among these transactions, Spottswood advised Energy Transfer Partners in the $60 billion merger with Energy Transfer Equity in a unit-for-unit exchange (pending), RSP Permian in its $9.5 billion merger with Concho Resources and Sunoco in the $3.3 billion sale of a majority of its convenience stores to 7-Eleven.
In a profile in the September edition of Texas Lawyer, Spottswood describes her proudest career moments as those where she can help clients “solve tricky problems with creative solutions that give everyone at the negotiating table what they need to get a deal done.”
“I think lawyers are constantly being called on to be more creative and proactive with clients, as opposed to just being scriveners and negotiating the legal terms of a deal within a specific narrow set of parameters,” she said when asked about current trends in the profession. “And I think that’s great, because it is the part of the practice I like best.”
Spottswood will be honored at a ceremony in Dallas on September 19, 2018. Her complete profile can be viewed here.
