Proximo has named the development of Gulf Coast Ammonia LLC’s (GCA) world-scale anhydrous ammonia plant the 2019 North American Petrochemicals Deal of the Year. Vinson & Elkins represented GCA as project counsel and borrower’s counsel and advised on all aspects of the development and financing for the project, including the negotiation of major commercial contracts and debt and equity financing agreements.

Proximo provides news, insight, opinion and events in energy and infrastructure finance. Each year, votes for deals within its deals data platform are tallied in various categories to determine contention for the Americas Deals of the Year Awards. Proximo’s editorial staff then selects winners based on factors such as well-managed risk and innovative structuring.

GCA’s ammonia facility will have a production capacity of approximately 1.3 million tons of ammonia per year and will purchase hydrogen and nitrogen gasses as feedstock, providing for significant capital efficiency and reduced air emissions. Using industry-leading and proven technology, the facility will be the world’s largest single-train ammonia synthesis loop and will raise the bar in terms of the safe and efficient production and storage of ammonia.

The transaction, which was led by V&E partners Kaam Sahely, Alan Alexander, Karen Smith and Creighton Smith, closed on December 30, 2019.
