Chris Strong Co-Chairs Drafting Committee for 2020 Association of International Petroleum Negotiators Model International Asset Sale and Purchase Agreement
Vinson & Elkins partner Chris Strong served as co-chair of the drafting committee for the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators’ (AIPN) 2020 Model International Asset Sale and Purchase Agreement (ASPA), released June 30, 2020.
The AIPN is an independent not-for-profit professional membership association that supports international energy negotiators around the world. One of the ways this is done is through the production of model contracts intended to serve as the starting point for negotiations and significantly decrease the time it takes to finalize a deal.
The 2020 ASPA is a standard form upstream asset acquisition document which can be used on a worldwide basis, tailored to the particular transaction and subject to any requirements of the jurisdiction in which the assets are situated.
With the help of Strong’s leadership, publication of the new ASPA culminated a three-year, industry-wide effort which included a drafting committee of more than 250 industry professionals from 58 countries.
As a member of V&E London’s Energy Transactions & Projects practice, Strong represents corporate clients around the world on transactions in the energy and natural resources space. Recognized by Chambers and Legal 500 (2020), Strong has more than 20 years of experience advising oil companies, banks, private equity funds and government entities on the acquisition and disposition of assets, as well as on project development transactions related to upstream oil and gas, power plants, petrochemical facilities, refineries, pipelines, liquefied natural gas and mining and metals.
