Vinson & Elkins Senior Associate Carla Jordan-Detamore has been named among the National Bar Association’s (NBA) “40 Under 40: Nation’s Best Advocates,” recognizing attorneys for high achievement in advocacy, innovation, vision, leadership and overall legal and community involvement.

Recipients will be honored at the NBA’s  40 Under 40 Virtual Awards Gala on July 25, 2020.

The NBA was founded in 1925 and is the oldest and largest national network of predominantly African-American attorneys and judges in the United States, representing the interests of approximately 65,000 lawyers, judges, law professors and law students. The NBA is organized around 23 substantive law sections, 9 divisions, 12 regions and 80 affiliate chapters throughout the United States and around the world.

Jordan-Detamore dedicates significant time to extracurricular activities focused on diversity and inclusion, mentorship and pro bono activities. This includes her work with the Greater Washington Area Chapter of the Women Lawyers Division of the NBA (GWAC), serving as President for the 2018-2019 term. Under her leadership, GWAC was selected as Voluntary Bar Association of the Year by the D.C. Bar.

“As one of the oldest and strongest distinguished bar associations in the world, this prestigious award given annually recognizes the nation’s most brilliant, courageous and determined advocates under the age of 40 who fight for equal justice under law and advance the causes of justice, equality, professionalism and community service,” said Dean Alfreda Robinson, National Bar Association President.

A member of V&E’s complex commercial litigation practice group, Jordan-Detamore’s practice primarily focuses on white collar criminal defense, government investigations, class action defense and civil litigation. Her litigation and client counseling experience includes managing complex electronic discovery, conducting internal investigations, acting as trial counsel in commercial business disputes, defending clients in government investigation and civil disputes involving allegations of fraud, defending clients in regulatory investigations and litigation arising out of financial restatements and accounting fraud and malpractice allegations and advising clients on compliance matters.

Jordan-Detamore’s other recent recognitions include being named to DCA Live’s inaugural list of Emerging Women Leaders in Law (Private Practice) in March 2019, distinguishing attorneys in the Washington, D.C. area as “emerging leaders within their firms and the broader legal community.” Also in 2019, Jordan-Detamore named to the National Black Lawyers 2019 “Top 40 Under 40” list for Washington, D.C.

Most recently, Jordan-Detamore was selected as one of only 24 participants by the D.C. Bar to participate as a member of the 2020 class of the D.C. Bar’s John Payton Leadership Academy, an intensive training program spread over three months, aimed to equip participants with the skills and tools they need to thrive and succeed in fast-paced legal and business environments.
