Amr Omran Associate, International Dispute Resolution & Arbitration

Amr is an associate in the International Dispute Resolution & Arbitration practice based in Dubai. His practice focuses on commercial, construction and investment treaty disputes. He has advised and represented clients across a range of economic sectors in various jurisdictions in the Middle East under many of the major arbitration rules. 

Prior to joining Vinson & Elkins, Amr worked with the Egyptian Public Prosecution Office in Cairo, The World Bank in Washington, DC, as well as the Paris and Dubai offices of a leading international law firm.

Experience Highlights

  • Advising a European contractor in litigation and arbitration regarding waste-to-energy facilities in Europe 
  • Acting for a Dubai contractor in DIFC-LCIA proceedings against the owner of a major residential project
  • Represented a multinational joint venture in DIAC proceedings against a State-owned entity in relation to a dispute concerning the construction of a megaproject in the United Arab Emirates
  • Represented a telecommunications company in an arbitration against its insurers under the DIFC-LCIA Rules
  • Represented a Chinese company in an ICSID arbitration against the Republic of Yemen in relation to a construction project
  • Represented an Egyptian company and its foreign investors in an ICSID arbitration arising out of the collapse of a gas export agreement
  • Advised a consortium of investors on possible claims and chances of success against two States under the Energy Charter Treaty in respect of renewable energy policy changes
  • Represented a telecommunications operator in relation to a regulatory investigation into allegations of capital market law violations
  • Advised a UAE contractor in respect of its claims for prolongation costs and lost profit
  • Advised a major defense contractor in settlement discussions with two Middle Eastern governments in respect of the procurement of integrated defense systems
  • Advised a major oil and gas company in relation to various options for pursuing a multi-billion dollar claim against a sovereign for breach of a concession agreement
  • Advised a UAE oil and gas company regarding potential avenues for pursuing a claim for the destruction of its investment in a Middle Eastern host State
