Robert Reyes Landicho Associate, International Dispute Resolution & Arbitration

Robert Reyes Landicho is an attorney in Vinson & Elkins LLP’s Houston office. He specializes in international commercial arbitration, investor-state arbitration, and U.S. commercial litigation.

Mr. Landicho has represented clients or assisted in investor-State disputes at ICSID and under the UNCITRAL rules, as well as in ICC, ICDR, AAA, DIFC, BCDR, LCIA, and ad hoc commercial arbitrations. In U.S. courts, Rob has experience with the U.S. Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, act of state doctrine, admiralty and maritime disputes, and questions of jurisdiction over non-U.S. domiciled parties. Rob has particular experience in oil and gas, construction and infrastructure, banking, manufacturing, real estate, franchising, and intellectual property international disputes involving Middle Eastern, European, and North, Central, and South American parties.

  • Representing a Middle Eastern state-owned entity in an ICC arbitration against a Dutch salvage contractor involving breaches of contract
  • Advising a Middle Eastern state-owned entity regarding commercial resolution of disputes and project restart strategies for a project involving the reconstruction of two oil terminals
  • Represented a Middle Eastern state in an ICC arbitration against another state involving breaches of contract and breaches of a treaty between the two states; the case also involves ancillary proceedings in different jurisdictions
  • Representing Mobil in ICSID annulment proceedings against the Argentine Republic, where Argentina is seeking to annul an award of US$196.24 million plus interest (assisting)
  • Representing investors in an investor-state arbitration against the Republic of Costa Rica under the Dominican Republic – Central America Free Trade Agreement (“DR-CAFTA”) (assisting)
  • Representing a UK company in an investor-state arbitration brought against an East European State, the dispute relates to the cancellation of upstream oil exploration rights, and includes complex issues of jurisdiction and the international law of State succession (assisting)
  • Representing Goldman Sachs Bank USA in an admiralty proceeding in U.S. Federal District Court (S.D. Fl.) regarding the enforcement and foreclosure of a ship mortgage
  • Representing a multinational pharmaceutical company in a post-acquisition purchase price adjustment dispute (assisting)
  • Representing a Saudi privately-owned company in fraud, embezzlement, and arbitration enforcement proceedings in multiple jurisdictions, including Saudi national courts and the Bahrain Chamber of Dispute Resolution (BCDR-AAA) (assisting)
  • Representing an Italian oil and gas industry contractor in a dispute with a Saudi company arising out of the construction and upgrading of a fertilizer plant in Saudi Arabia (assisting)
  • Advising a Texas limited liability company in a dispute with a German limited liability company involving the international sale of goods
  • Represented the Ministry of Oil of the Republic of Iraq in a proceeding in U.S. Federal District Court (S.D. Tex.) regarding the export of cargoes of oil from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to the United States (assisting)
  • Represented an international fashion house in lawsuit against the International Finance Corporation (World Bank Group) in New York State Courts, for breaches of contract related to an investment in Tajikistan. Resulted in a judgment in favor of the international fashion house dismissing the International Finance Corporation’s breach of contract claim
  • Represented a London-seated ICC arbitration involving a claim by a UK company working in Africa in various sectors in a claim for damages for breach of an exploration, production, and licensing agreement for oil exploration in South Sudan (assisting)
  • Represented two individual investors in related investor-state arbitrations brought against the Republic of Indonesia, in relation to the aftermath of the collapse of a bank in 2008. (Al-Warraq v Indonesia) (assisting)
  • Represented Master Sub-Franchisee in an ICDR arbitration regarding breaches of a Sub-Franchise Agreement to be performed in the United Arab Emirates. Resulted in an award in favor of our client, along with interest and costs (assisted)
  • Represented a Yemeni limited corporation company in a New York State temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction against a Maltese company and Delaware limited liability company, in a dispute arising out of the purchase and fabrication of custom built Heavy Fuel Oil generators (assisting)
