V&E Named a Law360 "Energy Group of the Year" for 10th Consecutive Year
Vinson & Elkins
has once again been named a Law360 “Energy Group of the Year.” Appearing
on the list every year since the series began in 2010, this is V&E’s 10th
consecutive year receiving this honor.
Law360 lauds V&E for working on 55 energy deals valued at approximately $72 billion and notching key litigation wins, including a victory for Marathon Petroleum in its $1 billion fight with the Internal Revenue Service, in 2019.
Another big win noted by Law360 came in June, when after a two-week trial in Denver, V&E won a $96 million jury verdict for Antero Resources against Washington Gas Light and WGL Midstream. “If not the largest gas contract at the time it was signed, it was certainly one of the largest when it was executed,” Jim Thompson, partner and head of V&E’s global litigation department, said in an interview with Law360.
On the transactional side, Law360 highlighted V&E’s work for Covey Park Energy, a privately held natural gas company with operations in the core of the Haynesville shale basin, in its acquisition by Comstock Resources, Inc. for approximately $2.2 billion, as well as its role as tax counsel to Buckeye Partners in its acquisition by IFM Investors, an all-cash transaction valued at $10.3 billion enterprise value and $6.5 billion equity value.
“It was just a year we hit on all cylinders,” Keith Fullenweider, co-head of V&E’s corporate department, told the publication. “There were a number of significant renewable energy transactions, some significant consolidating between oil and gas producers, and then we had a fair amount of development activity, where we were helping people build new projects.”
Law360’s “Practice Groups of the Year” series honors “the law firms behind the litigation wins and major deals that resonated throughout the legal industry.” V&E's full profile can be viewed here.
