V&E Pro Bono Counsel Ellyn Josef to Receive Pro Bono Leadership Award from Texas Appleseed
Texas Appleseed will honor Vinson & Elkins’ Pro Bono Counsel Ellyn
Josef with a Pro Bono Leadership Award at its annual Good Apple Dinner on
November 14, 2019 in Austin, Texas.
Texas Appleseed's mission is to promote social and economic
justice for all Texans by leveraging the skills and resources of volunteer
lawyers and other professionals to identify practical solutions to difficult
systemic problems. Since 2002, the organization has hosted the Good Apple
Dinner to honor leaders for their contributions to the community. Pro Bono
Leadership Awards are given to individuals and firms who have provided
much-needed pro bono service to Texas Appleseed on urgent issues.
Described as “a constant advocate and fantastic friend to
Texas Appleseed,” Josef coordinates and manages V&E’s pro bono initiatives,
including supervising all firm-wide pro bono activities and committees and
spearheading the development of local, national and international pro bono
“Giving back to the community is deeply rooted in V&E’s
culture, resulting in our lawyers devoting significant time to pro bono legal
service each year,” said Doug Bland, V&E partner and member of the host
committee for this year’s Good Apple Dinner. “Ellyn’s passion for equal justice
and serving the less fortunate has led the firm’s pro bono initiatives to
thrive, and we can’t think of a more deserving individual to receive this
Josef maintains V&E’s longstanding relationship with
Texas Appleseed, including coordinating the firm’s support of the
organization’s School-to-Prison Pipeline programs to keep children in school
and on track to graduate and its Homeless Youth initiatives to promote juvenile
and criminal justice reform and foster care reform.
Further, V&E lawyers provide research assistance for
various pro bono efforts and reports set forth by Texas Appleseed to uncover inequity
in laws and policies and identify solutions for lasting, concrete change.
