Sale of RSP Permian to Concho Resources Named 2018 M&A Deal of the Year at DFW Outstanding Corporate Counsel Awards
The 2018 DFW Outstanding Corporate Counsel Awards, hosted by the Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel and The Texas Lawbook, recognized Vinson & Elkins and RSP Permian General Counsel James Mutrie for their work on the company’s sale to Concho Resources, which was named M&A Deal of the Year.
Completed in June 2018, the transaction, valued at $9.5 billion, created the largest unconventional shale producer in the Permian Basin. The combined company expects to run the largest drilling program in the Permian with 27 rigs on a combined footprint of more than 640,000 net acres. Included in RSPP’s 92,000 net Permian acres is a 14,000-net acre block of Delaware acreage that Concho sold to Silver Hill in January 2016. According to the Texas Lawbook, it was the biggest M&A deal in the history of the Permian Basin.
The V&E corporate team was led by partners Doug McWilliams, Steve Gill and Lande Spottswood.
The DFW Outstanding Corporate Counsel Awards are the most prestigious, comprehensive and substantive awards focusing on the practice of business law in North Texas. More than 360 of the leading corporate lawyers in North Texas attended the awards ceremony at the George W. Bush Institute on January 24, 2019.
