The Legal 500 U.S. 2017 (Legalease, Ltd.) Ranks V&E in 39 Practice Areas, Recommends 81 Lawyers

Published: 05-31-2017

The Legal 500 U.S. recognized Vinson & Elkins as a leading law firm in 39 categories, named four lawyers as “Leading Lawyers” in its 2017 guide. In total, 81 attorneys were recognized in the 2017 U.S. edition.

Jim Thompson, head of V&E's Global Litigation Department, has been named a “Leading Lawyer” in Energy Litigation – Oil and Gas; John B. Connally IV, who co-heads the firm’s Energy Transactions/Projects group, has been named a “Leading Lawyer” in Energy Transactions: Oil and Gas; and Trina Chandler has been named a “Leading Lawyer” in Energy Transactions: Conventional Power. Jay Seegers is newly listed as a “Leading Lawyer” in Energy Regulatory: Oil and Gas.

V&E is once again a Tier 1 firm nationally in Energy Transactions: Oil and Gas and is now a Tier 1 firm in the newly-created Energy Regulatory: Oil and Gas category. Effective in 2017, Legal 500 U.S. split its more general Energy Regulatory category into categories for both Oil/Gas and Power.

On the corporate side, Legal 500 notes that V&E is “adept at ‘large, complex energy transactions,’ particularly in the upstream space.” Meanwhile, the firm’s litigation group is lauded as having “considerable clout in jury and bench trials before federal and state courts.”

The Legal 500 series has been one of the largest legal referral guides for more than 20 years for commercial and private companies, corporate counsel, CEOs and professional advisers. The publication interviews in-house counsel and lawyers globally to compile its annual guides.
