Law360 Names V&E Among 2017 "Energy Groups of the Year"
For the eighth
consecutive year, Vinson & Elkins has been recognized in Law360’s “Practice
Groups of the Year” series for the firm’s industry leading energy litigation
and transactional successes in 2017.
In a Jan. 19
profile, Law360 lauds V&E for handling 74 energy M&A deals
valued at approximately $104 billion and notching notable victories before the
Texas Supreme Court. V&E is among five law firms honored this year in the
energy category, and has been named to the list every year since Law360
launched the series in 2010.
highlights several litigation wins V&E secured in 2017, including a Texas
Supreme Court ruling for Denbury Green Pipeline-Texas, which clarified how
common carrier pipeline status with the power of eminent domain may be
established under state law, and a Delaware Supreme Court ruling confirming
Energy Transfer Equity’s right to terminate a proposed $38 billion merger with
The Williams Cos.
Other notable wins
cited by Law360 included a Texas Supreme Court victory for Oncor
Electric Delivery Co. in a complex rate dispute with the Public Utility
Commission of Texas and a Colorado federal jury verdict the firm
secured for Antero Resources Corp. in litigation over long term natural gas
transactional side, V&E is recognized for representing Sunoco Logistics
Partners in its $20 billion merger with Energy Transfer Partners and Rice
Energy in its $6.7 billion definitive merger agreement with EQT Corp., creating
the largest domestic natural gas producer in the country.
The firm is also
credited for its work in the capital markets space, including advising BP
America in its master limited partnership IPO, filed in September, and the
underwriters to Silver Run Acquisition Corp. in its $1 billion IPO, which
closed in March.
