Law360 Names Bryan Loocke 2017 Energy Rising Star

Published: 07-25-2017

Vinson & Elkins partner Bryan Loocke has been named one of Law360’s 2017 Energy Rising Stars in recognition of his work brokering “a slew of multibillion-dollar deals in the oil patch.” Loocke is one of just five Rising Stars selected in the energy category this year.

In a profile appearing in Law360, Loocke is lauded for working on over $5.5 billion in announced or closed deals so far in 2017, including guiding Blackstone Energy Partners LP in its $2 billion acquisition of EagleClaw Midstream Ventures, one of the largest privately-held midstream operators in the Permian’s Delaware Basin.

Also highlighted is Loocke’s December 2016 representation of Brigham Resources Operating LLC and Brigham Resources Midstream LLC in the $2.55 billion sale of virtually all of their southern Delaware Basin assets to Diamondback Energy Inc.

A self-described “Texas boy,” Loocke’s grandparents worked in the oil fields for decades, sparking his interest in energy M&A. “I didn’t like the adversarial model, M&A was the more collaborative model that I enjoyed,” he told Law360. “The culture kind of fits with my culture and my temperament. It’s hard-charging, but at the same time, it’s a small group of people that run in the circle, so reputation is important.”

This year’s Rising Stars list consists of 156 lawyers under the age of 40 as of April 30, 2017, spanning a variety of practice areas. The publication received more than 1,200 submissions for the distinction, and winners were selected based on career accomplishments in their respective practice areas. Loocke’s complete profile can be found here.

Past V&E Rising Stars award recipients include partners Tirzah Lollar and Hilary Preston in 2016 and partners Steve Gill and Jeremy Marwell in 2015.
