David Tsai Awarded 2017 James C. Hormel Philanthropist Award by AIDS Legal Referral Panel

partner David Tsai has been selected to receive the 2017 James C. Hormel
Philanthropist Award by the AIDS Legal Referral Panel (ALRP).
He will be
recognized on May 3, 2017, at an event in connection with the ALRP’s Heartbeat
Campaign to raise awareness and funds in support of its mission.
Tsai, a longtime
supporter of the ALRP, is being recognized for his dedication to the
organization. In addition to his past board service, personal contributions,
work on pro bono immigration matters and other volunteer time, Tsai helped
secure some of the largest cy pres awards in the ALRP’s history. Cy pres awards
are residual funds remaining after a class action settlement that are
distributed to charitable organizations.
thousands of cases each year, providing free and low-cost legal assistance to
persons living with HIV/AIDS in the San Francisco Bay Area. Legal issues the
organization handles include housing, bankruptcy/credit, immigration,
employment, insurance, confidentiality matters, family law, government benefits
and public accommodations.
Tsai is an
active member of his local community, serving as the President-Elect of the
Asian American Bar Association and on the boards of Lambda Legal, Bar
Association of San Francisco (BASF), Equality California, and the University of
California, Riverside. He has been recognized as a top 50 California Lawyer on
the Fast Track by The Recorder and was named a Rising Star by the
Minority Corporate Counsel Association.

breach of contract and product defect litigation for companies innovating
biotechnology, medical devices, software and hardware.
