V&E Pro Bono Highlight: International Policy Project
World Medical Fund for Children (WMF) runs a medical elective programme in Malawi. Having previously produced a form of volunteer agreement for the programme, Emily Barlass, Lucy Preston and Antonia George worked with WMF to produce a consistent and consolidated policy manual to which its volunteers can refer for information about, for example, the programme, travel and other required documentation and internal policies such as anti-bribery and confidentiality. The client was very pleased with the volunteer agreement and the policy manual and is keen to work with V&E again on future projects.
reflects on her experience with this project:
practicalities of the environment the volunteers would be working in, as well
as how both the volunteers and the patients would benefit from the programme,
was an interesting challenge. The crux of the work was balancing common
sense solutions and pragmatism with cultural and medical sensitivities (i.e.
considering both patient confidentiality and volunteer dress code). Working
with WMF was a fantastic experience as it provided an opportunity to work with
a new client in a new industry, whilst serving an excellent cause. WMF was
extremely grateful and gave very positive feedback, making it a rewarding
experience for all involved."
