V&E Partner Jim Knight Quoted in Time Regarding Possible Blackberry Ban in UAE
August 4, 2010 — The United Arab Emirates cites security concerns for its impending ban on Blackberry service set for October 11, 2010. UAE authorities announced a suspension of the smart phone's most popular and useful features: e-mail, web access, and the BlackBerry instant-messenger service. Vinson & Elkins' partner Jim Knight is quoted in a recent article in Time magazine:
[Jim] Knight, the partner at the U.S. law firm [Vinson & Elkins], says he isn't worried about secure data when it comes to his personal information. "You almost come to expect within the region a heightened sense of security and surveillance," he says. "But on the business side, [losing the BlackBerry] makes confidentiality for clients and client issues much more problematic." Read the full Time article on the UAE Blackberry ban.
