May 28, 2010 — Vinson & Elkins associate Gabriela Gallegos aims to have it all: a growing legal practice, a fulfilling personal life, and a few triathalon wins along the way. What does it take to move toward those goals without losing her health (or sanity)? A positive attitude, a lot of planning, a flexible employer, and centering herself in a home she loves.
Gabriela, who maintains a busy practice in litigation and regulatory law, makes time in her schedule to volunteer as a board member with the El Paso Community Scholar program and to train for triathalons - morning and evening workouts of running, biking, and swimming round out her already-full life. Of great help to Gabriela was V&E's policy allowing associates to help create a work environment that would fit their lives - that's how this consumate go-getter was able to move back to her native El Paso and work from her home office. In offering her take on how she is able to navigate the many pulls on her time and energy, Gabriela is philosophical: "The key to exercise, and to life in general, is to find something you like."
