Turmoil in global financial markets has accentuated the role that Islamic investment may play in rejuvenating stagnant capital and credit markets. While further integration of Islamic financial institutions into the international economy is required, significant progress has been made in structuring and marketing Sharia’-compliant investment products within the existing frameworks of various legal systems. This proliferation of Islamic banking may usher in a better understanding of Islamic finance and the role it can play in the coming years.
