Women lawyers are vital to the business, culture, and future of Vinson & Elkins. To formalize these values, V&E launched its Women’s Initiative in 2000 to attract the best and brightest women lawyers, promote their advancement, and nurture their development. The Women's Initiative creates and sustains a variety of programs that benefit all of our lawyers.
V&E was the first law firm in the country to take a comprehensive approach to women's issues by forming the Women’s Career Development Council. Powered by partners and associates throughout our national offices and chaired by Valinda Wolfert, the Council works to address challenges women face as they pursue their legal careers. With the full support of Vinson & Elkins, women attorneys are empowered to contribute to their fullest potential — on the job, at home, and in the community.
While proud of our accomplishments, V&E continually seeks ways to enhance and improve by encouraging and promoting new ideas and input from our lawyers through regular meetings, drop-in sessions, and social events. Those internal efforts are complemented by our Advisory Board, composed of leaders from the business community, government, and major nonprofit organizations.

The advancement of women within our firm is an important value to V&E. We understand that diversity within our leadership strengthens our firm and is paramount to our business. Two women serve on our Management Committee, a woman chairs the Attorney Development Initiatives Core Group, and numerous other women partners serve as section or practice group leaders.
