Women's Initiative

We believe that by working together, we can have a more meaningful impact by providing career development and leadership opportunities and visible support for our women."

Vinson & Elkins launched our Women’s Initiative in 2000 to attract the best and brightest women lawyers, foster their career development, and promote their advancement. Realizing the unique challenges women often face in the workplace, V&E’s Women's Initiative further empowers our women lawyers to build pathbreaking legal careers. Their successes, in turn, benefit the firm, our clients, the profession, and our communities.

Our commitment to the success of our women attorneys remains strong even as the Women’s Initiative adapts to the changing professional and personal needs of our attorneys. Firm leadership — both men and women — spearhead the Women’s Initiative and continually elicit feedback and encourage input from our lawyers on best practices in professional development, career mentoring, and networking events.

Even as V&E invests in our women lawyers, they serve as role models and mentors for pre-law and law students. A number of the firm’s pipeline initiatives, which increase diversity in the legal field, are inclusive of women. We support and recognize our current and future women lawyers in a variety of ways.

Women in Leadership
The advancement of women within our law firm is an important value at V&E. We understand that diversity within our leadership strengthens our firm and is paramount to our business. Two women serve on our Management Committee, and women partners serve as practice group leaders and committee chairs. Our women lawyers have highly regarded practices, and many are thought leaders in their fields, with proven successes and notable publications. Additionally, they are active in pro bono work, professional associations, and community projects.

Thriving at V&E
V&E provides all of our attorneys with the resources they need to advance in their careers while maintaining fulfilling personal lives.

Future Women in Law
V&E has long envisioned a more diverse and inclusive legal environment. To that end, we have sought out and fostered emerging legal talent in our communities through V&E Diversity Scholarships for students entering college, Law Preview Diversity Scholarships for students entering law school, and Diversity Fellowships for law school students. Additionally, our lawyers maintain close relationships with law schools and regularly participate in Campus Outreach Programs.
