Beeley, Mark

Biography
Accredited with “exceptional expertise” by Legal 500 UK (2011) and described by Chambers UK (2012) as "well prepared and focused," and "responsive to clients' needs," Mark is a partner in the International Dispute Resolution practice group, based in London. Mark’s practice is primarily focused on international dispute resolution (through arbitration, litigation, or ADR techniques) and includes advising clients on the drafting and selection of dispute resolution/jurisdiction/forum clauses, as well as nationality planning in connection with investments in foreign jurisdictions. In addition, he advises on bribery, corruption and international sanction violation issues, particularly those connected with the UK.

He has acted as arbitration counsel and advocate under all the major arbitral rule systems (including ICSID, LCIA, ICC, UNCITRAL, AAA, HKIAC, and CIArb) and in most common arbitral seats. Additionally, Mark has been involved in both defending and raising challenges to awards in various jurisdictions, and has acted as arbitrator. Away from arbitration Mark has acted as both solicitor and counsel in proceedings before the English High Court, and is admitted to practice in the Dubai International Financial Centre Court as an advocate. Predominantly, his cases either arise from the energy sector or have a complex technology element.

Mark was originally called to the Bar of England and Wales and now practices as a Solicitor-Advocate. In addition to speaking at conferences, he is the author of a number of articles on international arbitration (dealing with issues such as procedural fairness, res judicata, bias, cost control, and sovereign immunity) and on comparative law issues. Among other organizations, he is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the LCIA User’s Council.
